Openspace is a multi-stage investor, backing companies across Southeast Asia that make a transformative impact where technology meets everyday life.
Openspace believes responsible investing goes beyond providing capital– it’s an opportunity to solve the region’s most pressing social, environmental and governance issues. For that reason, ESG has always been fundamental to Openspace’s investment process and shaping impact. Openspace values transparency in their approach to ESG, sharing what they’ve learned to inspire other investors to prioritise this and their impact.
Each year for the past three, our work with Openspace on their annual Sustainability Report has been a journey of pushing creative boundaries to reflect today’s narrative. The theme of the 2023 report is Awareness Meets Action, emphasising the critical need to move beyond acknowledgement and take action. Our goal was to create a report and accompanying infographics that clearly reflect Openspace’s vision and commitment to helping build a sustainable future for Southeast Asia.
Creating flow and clarity
The design of Openspace’s 2023 Sustainability Progress Report was guided by a clean, minimal and editorial aesthetic. We prioritised creating a clear visual hierarchy to make information accessible and engaging, without overwhelming the reader.
One key design feature was the use of a gradient that shifts from green to blue, or light to intense, symbolising the transition from awareness to action. These gradients were applied as backgrounds, progress bars and charts to create a cohesive visual theme. We also incorporated subtle line graphics that symbolise connection and progression.
Typography is incredibly important in creating an editorial look. We opted for the bold and modern Nohemi typeface for headers, adding character while maintaining clarity and legibility. The colour palette featured blues and greens, subtly evoking a feel of clarity, balance and a connection to our environment.
Shared knowledge, shared progress
To complement the 2023 Sustainability Progress Report, we created a series of digital infographic cards for Openspace to share on social media.
The cards highlight key insights and actionable steps on pressing ESG topics including corporate governance, AI ethics and labour management. Designed to be informative yet accessible, the infographics aim to provide value to both venture capital investors and startups, helping them approach the communities they serve and the environments they impact with greater awareness and responsibility.
To ensure a cohesive visual identity, we carried over the report’s graphic elements, typography and colour palette into the infographics. The gradients, clean lines and modern typeface help to create a polished and unified look.
